Sansa reminded Cersei of a butterfly. Something delicate, beautiful, coming into her own from the ugly worm that came before. She watched the girl kick herself out of the cocoon that Ned Stark had made for her. Daddy’s not here to protect you anymore, Cersei thought.
Sansa was originally selected for Joffrey, but after Robert had died, Joffrey’s attention was directed elsewhere and Cersei wanted the little butterfly for herself. She’d help those wings grow strong and develop. She’d be the flower drew the butterfly in, teased it with her nectar, give what she could to make the girl dependent on her.
And when the time was right, Cersei would take the little butterfly in hand and crush her. Kings Landing was no place for fragile creatures.
