So yesterday I found out that Netflix UK added Season 3 of Scorpion on its website, so I logged on only to discover they've only added up to episode 20 so no idea when they are planning on adding the other 5 (which for Waige and Quntis fans are the best episodes of season 3). Luckily I have the DVD but come on if you announce adding a season you should make sure all of the episodes are online.

Sisters birthday went OK, have a day trip to see the Kelpies at Falkirk then some shopping before having lunch at our local carvery the Sweet Chestnut.

Don't know what's happening for Halloween yet but will keep you up to date, lol.

I have write or die, but some how the other people factor is really better for my productivity.

Title: Thy Eternal Summer
Author: Evandar
Fandom: The Silmarillion
Rating: T
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Romance
Pairing: Maglor/Elrond
Warnings: AU - no kinslayings, age disparity
Disclaimer: I do not own The Hobbit and I am making no profit from this story.
Summary: When he is sent to support his brother in negotiating with King Thingol of Doriath, Makalaure sets eyes on Elrond Peredhel and is utterly lost.
AN: This was written for [personal profile] amyfortuna as a treat for [community profile] innumerable_stars 2017 as a thank you for running such a wonderful fest.

Some notes on the AU: this takes place in a world where the kinslayings never happened and Feanor rules over the city-states of the Noldor as their High King. Maglor is unmarried and did not leave a wife behind in Valinor.

I'm not a poet at heart, so all quotations herein come from the Sonnets of William Shakespeare.

AN: This was written for [personal profile] zdenka for [community profile] innumerable_stars 2017. Zdenka requested a first meeting between Elrond and Boromir, but the more I wrote, the more Faramir and Elros demanded to be involved too.

Innumerable Stars Recs

So, reveals have just gone up at [community profile] innumerable_stars and I'm writing a rec list because there's just so much amazing fic and art that's been created. While I'm still working my way through the archive, here are my favourites so far.

First: a special mention has to go to my gift this year, which is Faithless Is He That Says Farewell When the Road Darkens by bunn

Summary: The War of Wrath lasted for forty-two years. It was neither a swift nor a certain victory. Here, in the middle of that great war, Celebrimbor, Elrond and Elros meet and work together. Elrond and Celebrimbor have complex feelings about the House of Fëanor. Elros, not so much.

Comments: Bunn managed to turn my request for cousinly family-feels into a sweeping epic set against the backdrop of the War of Wrath. Starring an Elros capable of commanding armies (and respect), an Elrond who is very much a descendant of Luthien, and a Celebrimbor who loves and wants to protect his cousins as much as he realises that he can't stop them from being involved. Maglor and Maedhros are sympathetic and complicated, and their oath is fully realised as a frightening and powerful thing. This fic is long, beautifully written, and so well researched - it even comes with a map! I'm in love.

Other recs:

Closure, grounding. by [personal profile] lynndyre

Summary: Maedhros is restored to his kin; Fingon helps restore him to himself.

Comments: Fabulous hurt/comfort artwork set after Maedhros' rescue. The detail of Maedhros' braids and clothing is wonderful, and their expressions evoke so much pain and sorrow. This piece has all the feels.

Crafting a Beginning by [personal profile] amyfortuna

Summary: When Maeglin and Aredhel wind up at Nargothrond instead of Gondolin, he meets his second cousin Finduilas and falls instantly in love.

Comments: Speaking of feels, this fic is just achingly sweet. It's a lovely piece that shows how a relationship might have developed between Maeglin and Finduilas and it's just. So. Cute. With a lovely, hopeful ending that leaves you wanting more.

The Deep Breath Before The Plunge by Grundy

Summary: On the eve of what will come to be called the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, Maeglin meets his mother's kin.

Comments: The second Maeglin-fic I'm reccing - and another one that has the promise of a happier ending than canon. That said, it's still heartbreaking. Maeglin is so young here, and so traumatised, and his interactions with his extended family are just perfect - all fragile and hopeful and - Look, this fic made me like Curufin. It really made me like Curufin and that has never happened before. Ever.

Out of the Shadows of History by StarSpray

Summary: When Estel was nine years old, Erestor gave him a large box filled with wooden blocks of various shapes and sizes.

Comments: A lovely fic about the parental relationship between Elrond and Aragorn, based around the idea of rebuilding. It's such a hopeful fic and very bittersweet at the end, but I loved the detail of Aragorn picking up habits from his foster-father.

The Places You'll Go by Grundy

Summary: Celebrían has an idea, but she needs some help to make it a reality. Who else would she turn to but her cousin?

Comments: This is a gorgeous little fic starring an adventurous Celebrian torn between her Noldor and Sindar heritage, and her relationships with her cousins. Thranduil is in the background as one of her co-adventurers, and Celebrimbor stars as a helpful older relative willing to help her achieve her goals. Basically: supportive family feels that explores the relationships between the Noldor and Sindar in the Second Age, and which makes Celebrian a wannabe cartographer and an actual person in her pre-Elrond years.

in the bottle, sang the soul by erlkoenig

Summary: “What, ye never settled a debate with a proper test of strength?”
A casual discussion of Dwarven Craftmanship versus Noldor Smithing leads to a friendly wager between Azaghâl and Maedhros. Maglor participates in sibling antagonizing, Fingon prevents a brawl. Good times are had by all.

Comments: I'm always here for interactions between the Eldar and the Dwarves, especially explorations of friendship, and this is exactly that. First Age inter-species drinking contest with a Maedhros who is more than a little smitten with Fingon, and a Maglor who is very definitely a younger sibling.

Today's main accomplishment: getting a decent amount of manga work done despite being drained enough to wind up taking two accidental naps this afternoon. >.< I got close enough to a draft on the chunk of script due Monday that I expect that deadline'll be fine even if doing some garden work (planting bulbs and bagging up the tomato plants for compost pickup, mainly) takes up more of our time than expected tomorrow.

There are theories at the office about how much longer this stint of Casual Job will go, but what have we learned about attempting to make predictions? We'll see how it plays out.

[dreamwidth.org profile] scruloose and I have now made it as far as episode 3 of Star Trek: Disco, and we're also up to date on The Good Place. Given my work schedule(s), I'm counting it as a partial win. I really want to start in on The Gifted, though.

I haven't watched any of the anime for The Ancient Magus' Bride (either the OAV or the recently-started TV series), but in the last several days I've seen it mentioned quite a few times here and on Twitter, and that delights me. The manga series is fantastic--definitely one of my current favorites of the things I'm working on. (The other being Yona of the Dawn.) In theory I really want to watch the TV series, but realistically, I said that about the My Love Story!! anime too, and like so much other media I ~really want~ to consume, it keeps not happening.

For the longest time it felt like there weren't anime versions of any manga titles I've worked on, but it's never quite been true. I mean, Sgt. Frog had a (pretty long-running!) series and movies and all, although I gather the plots rarely adhered closely to the manga (and with that series, there's no need for them to, really); also, DN Angel got animated in some capacity (TV series?), but as I only actually worked on the final two volumes that Tokyopop released (vol. 12 and 13, I think?), it never sank in and felt like "my" series. And X has been animated twice, but I actively loathe the movie and am deeply grumpy about the TV series...

...and then there're the newer things that I keep wanting to see, but not finding time for: Arpeggio of Blue Steel, My Love Story!!, Yona of the Dawn, and now Magus are all out there. (Okay, no--I did see an episode or two of My Love Story!!, and that was wonderful.) (I feel like I might even be missing one. And now I suddenly really want someone to animate Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer.)

Will I ever make it as far as checking those shows out for real? No idea. (I even have an ongoing Crunchyroll subscription, but I don't exactly make use of it. [Terrifying media-to-consume list, etc. etc etc.])

Last night was my fourth aerial silks class, so we're halfway through. It wasn't *bad*, but I also don't feel like I managed to do a whole lot )

[dreamwidth.org profile] scruloose and I are so utterly out of the gardening habit at this point. We don't have anything planted specifically for autumn, and we gave the tomato plants up for lost a couple weeks ago when I kept hearing that there was an overnight frost warning and last-ditch tomato harvesting should happen. So we did that, but since then I've been seeing local photos and stuff from gardeners carrying right along with harvesting their tomatoes etc. Next autumn we won't be so quick to say, "Oh, I guess we're done now."

A lot of the tomatoes we brought in at the abandoning-them point were still very green, but those all seem to have ripened up nicely. There's just one left now; [dreamwidth.org profile] scruloose has been working his way through them. The plants did produce some more fruit, but [dreamwidth.org profile] scruloose's experiment in eating one of those post-final-harvest tomatoes wasn't tasty, for whatever reason.

As a result of wandering off from dealing with the tomato plants, I should admit we've also completely slacked on dealing with the flowers. >.< Which isn't so bad for the potted annuals, because they have an expiry date, but we really need to double check what to do about the perennial bed and the potted raspberry shrub.

And whatever else happens, those bulbs need to get planted. *determined*

It's been awhile since I've done a fic-y kind of meme - and since [community profile] monthlysupergo is hosting a neighborhood party, I figure I should set up my door for fic-or-treaters!

Please note: I'm unlikely to get around to answering my door until the 30th/31st. I am incredibly busy this month, but I'm really looking forward to this as a low-stress countdown to [community profile] trickortreatex reveals, so please feel free to knock!

Goodies:
If you leave me prompts in fandoms I'm familiar with, you are 100% going to get bite-sized ficbits. (I'm aiming for 500 words or less, but who knows. You may inspire my next longfic.) If you prefer to just knock on the door and take your chances, you're more likely to receive gorgeous pictures of autumn-y stuff, or possibly some spooky theme music.

Guidelines:
When knocking on the door, please leave a fandom, a ship, a character, or some other sort of prompt! (Lyrics or poetry are always fun to respond to.) I'm cool with multiple requests from the same person. (But just as an fyi, I'll probably try to treat everyone at my door before I double-back and hand out seconds.) Alternatively, just drop a cheery "Fic-or-Treat" and get whatever else I've got lurking in the candy bowl.

Fandoms:
I've been hanging out mostly in the Prequels/Clone Wars era of Star Wars, but any of my old fandoms are welcome. (A brief and hilariously non-comprehensive list: Anita Blake, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cardcaptor Sakura, the Covenant, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Harry Potter, Harvest Moon, Hocus Pocus, Inuyasha, Juvenile Orion, Katekyou Hitman Reborn, Kingdom Hearts, Labyrinth, Leverage, Long Live the Queen, Pirates of the Caribbean, Rune Factory, Supernatural, Yuu Yuu Hakusho) If you know I'm familiar with a different fandom, go ahead and ask for it.

the porchlight is ON
Obviously, anyone from [community profile] monthlysupergo is welcome to drop by. So are all the people on my rlist. As a matter of fact, my light is on for anyone to drop by! Anon passers-by are totally welcome, too; it's not like you need a door of your own to knock on mine. (But if you would like to link me back to yours, feel free.)
