Challenge 370 - remainder/Challenge 368 - fingers - A Space for Sculpting - Desert Hearts

Title: A Space for Sculpting
Fandom: Desert Hearts
Pairing: Vivian Bell/Cay Rivers
Rating: G
Prompt: 370-remainder, 368 - fingers
Word Count: 250
Summary: Cay tries to talk Vivian into sculpting with her

“When was the last time you had your fingers in some clay?” Cay asked.

“I'm not sure. Primary school, I think. I made a misshapen bowl for my mother.”

“Did she like it?”

Vivian smiled. “She said she did. It was pretty ugly.”

“Well, you know what they say, 'practice makes perfect' or at least better than before.”

“No, no. I'm no good at things like that.”

“Do you only do things you're good at?”

“Usually.”

“C'mon. Sculpt with me. If nothing else, just squeezing the clay can be therapeutic.” She reached for a lump of clay and began working at it with her right hand. “There's been many a day with Frances that I've come back here and done just that. And if the clay happens to develop some sort of shape, well, that's fine too.” Vivian sat transfixed as Cay's fingers manipulated the clay into something new, then just as quickly, collapsed the lump of clay back into a ball and pressed it into Vivian's hand. “Nothing to it.”

Vivian handed it back. “That's okay. I'll just watch you.”

“No. This is a space for sculpting. You want to stay, you have to play.”

“I guess I'll be going then.”

“Gwen sculpts.” Vivian's eyes narrowed and Cay hid the smile that threatened. “Yeah. A few of the pieces over there are hers.”

“I suppose I could give it a try.”

“That's all I ask,” said Cay.
