Challenge 353 - Pearl - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Willow/Kennedy
Title: Something Borrowed
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Kennedy/Willow Rosenberg
Rating: Teen
Challenge: 353 - pearl
Word Count: 266
Summary: Willow thinks of something that was lost
They're on the bus, heading away from what was once Sunnydale, when Willow gasps. Kennedy glances over, putting an arm around Willow who she can see is clearly shaken.
“What is it?”
“It's silly really. Silly and selfish and I don't know why I was thinking of it.”
“Tell me.”
“My mother had a pearl necklace that I used to love. When I was a little girl and used to play dress-up, I would beg her to put it on me. She'd always find some excuse not to and give me some other necklace, usually just a bunch of beads to wear. She did tell me that when I married, she would let me borrow the necklace for my 'something borrowed', do you know about that?”
Kennedy nods.
“And now, it's down at the bottom of a crater, so I won't have that. I won't have my 'something borrowed' and it's silly and selfish because I still have my parents, but it's just...”
“Maybe you're making it into something that it's not. Maybe that 'something borrowed' only matters in a traditional wedding, one with a bride and a groom.”
“You think?”
“Yes. And we're not that. Of course, we're not getting married any time soon. We'll have to figure out how we are together outside of a crisis.”
Willow lets out a weak chuckle. “Is that even possible? Not being in a crisis, I mean.”
“Well, as close as we can get, how about that? I'm yours, for as long as you'll have me.”
Kennedy laces her fingers through Willow's as the bus continues toward Cleveland.
