Challenge 351 - Tension - The Other Side of Patrolling - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Title: The Other Side of Patrolling
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Faith Lehane/Dawn Summers
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 243
Prompt: 351 - tension
Summary - Dawn waits for Faith to come home

Dawn sat on the couch, reading a magazine. She glanced up at the clock. Five minutes had passed since the last time she looked at the clock.

She hated this. It wasn't every night that Faith patrolled. It wasn't every night that she waited up. She honestly had no idea how watchers could stand it.

But then again, watchers weren't typically in love with their Slayers, and most Slayers didn't stay out infuriatingly late either.

It's part of the job.

Sacred duty.

One girl in all the world.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. She'd heard it all. Except Faith was no longer the “one girl” (or “one of the two girls” which didn't have as nice a ring to it.) There were others that could go out. It wasn't as though...

She heard the jangling of keys as the front door unlocked. Three of the trainees walked through the door before Faith appeared. Dawn released a deep breath and felt the knot of tension in her stomach uncurl.

“Hey babe,” said Faith. “You didn't have to wait up.”

“I haven't seen you all day and I know how you get after slaying.”

“Well, I was going to join the trainees for some mint chocolate chip in the kitchen, but...”

Dawn got up from the couch, took Faith by the hand, and led her down the hall into their bedroom.

“...This could work too,” Faith said as Dawn pressed her up against the door, kissing her.
