At first they check in with each other via e-mail. Occasionally they send each other mail. Calls are rarer. Tanya is trying to launch a music career while Aisha is going to college, finding time that they’re both free is difficult. Then Aisha gets a package with Tanya’s first CD inside. She closes her eyes as she lets Tanya’s voice transport her into the stories Tanya’s woven into songs.
She reaches for her phone.
“You sound incredible,” Aisha praises when Tanya picks up.
Tanya laughs. “I missed the sound of your voice too.”
“We need a date.”
“Yes, we do.”
