Irony - Desert Hearts - for prompt 308 beloved
Title: Irony
Fandom: Desert Hearts
Pairing: Vivian Bell/Cay Rivers
Rating: G
Word Count: 187
Summary: Without her marriage, she wouldn't have this
Tomorrow was the day that she would finally sign the decree of divorce. Had receiving the decree given her husband a moment's pause? She'd had hers at the beginning when they'd first gotten the license, sitting in the hallway of the courthouse, waiting for the clerk to call their names. There would be no “dearly beloved” pronounced at the start of the ceremony and she wondered if waiting for someone to stir that passion in her was a wiser move, if she should wait for the person who would call her beloved.
How was she to know that ending the marriage was the gateway to finding that person? Cay made her feel loved every moment they were together.
The irony of it was that if she hadn't gotten married, she'd probably still be in New York. And Cay would be in Reno. And Vivian would never experience this side of herself that she'd buried deep. She'd wander about feeling vaguely unfulfilled and never understand the reason why.
If one good thing had come out of her marriage, it was this- without it, she'd have never found love.
