For prompt 304 - denial

Title: Sacrifice
Fandom: OZ
Pairing: Sister Peter Marie Reimondo/Gloria Nathan (one-sided)
Rating: PG
Prompt: 304 - denial
Word Count: 300
Summary: Being a nun was more about sacrifice than denial

Being a nun was about sacrifice, not denial. It was setting aside the things of the world- the things that tempt and put barriers between herself and God. The feelings could still come, and they would, and they did, but she'd been given the tools to look at the situation honestly and then move forward for the greater good.

If Sister Peter Marie stole a glance at Gloria during a staff meeting, if she delighted in hearing the sound of the doctor's voice in the break room, if she found a reason to visit a patient in the infirmary while Gloria was on call, well, those things were just part of her day. It was natural to be grateful for the presence of another Latina in the prison- despite the age difference between them, they could relate to each other in ways that the others could not. If they touched each other, it was part of their jobs as care-givers for the rest of the community- even care-givers needed someone to care for them once in a while. She wasn't going to keep from doing that.

It was at night, when the day's activities entered the realm of her subconscious, and she dreamed of being touched by Gloria in other ways, that the denial kicked in. She'd awaken with the wisps of the dream rapidly vanishing and write it off as something else. By the time she'd said her morning prayers, showered, and dressed, she was well on the way to being able to face the day. Once the cross necklace that she'd received as a novitiate was fastened around her neck, she had the armor she needed to put the rest of it aside.

It wasn't denial. It was sacrifice and one that she had been willing to take.
