Challenge 290 - Remainder, 214 - Adore - Desert Hearts - Imminent Departure
Title: Imminent Departure
Fandom: Desert Hearts
Pairing: Cay Rivers/Vivian Bell
Rating: Teen
Prompt: 290- Remainder, 214 - Adore
Word Count: 195
Summary: Cay wonders how Vivian can leave
“I adore you for this,” Vivian had said and still she was leaving.
It wasn’t fair, Cay thought. They had something together. Vivian wasn’t afraid of taking risks. She’d just gotten a divorce after all. She could have stayed married to her husband, had a nice safe life, but she wanted something more.
Cay thought that she was that something more.
Maybe Vivian merely adored the way that Cay had taught her to be in touch with her body, to let herself go and experience love and life and all the world had to offer. Maybe it was what Cay did for her that she adored, but she didn’t love Cay enough to leave things behind for her. Love meant sacrifice and so did adoration.
Of course, it went both ways, a soft small voice that sounded a bit like Vivian’s reminded her. She was the one known for taking risks, for flying by the seat of her pants, but to leave everything she’d known, everything she’d become, that would take something more than what she was willing to give.
The train would depart in an hour and, with it, the woman she loved.

Until then I don't think the prospect of a long term future has ever been a reality for her, and her fears are overwhelming. I know that feeling; those feelings only too well.
