Challenge 268 - Chill - Take a Break - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Title: Take a Break
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Dawn Summers/Faith Lehane
Rating: Teen
Prompt: 268 - Chill
Word Count: 333
Summary: Dawn's back from college for a visit

Faith jumped as something cold was pressed against the back of her neck. She spun around to face a grinning Dawn.

“Jeez, Dawnie, plenty of things out here to give me a chill without you doing that.”

Dawn held out a peace offering. “Sounds like you could use a beer.”

“Thanks,” she took the can from Dawn, sat down on the grass, and patted the spot next to her.

“I probably should...” Dawn started to back towards the house.

“Stay out for a minute.”

“You're patrolling.”

“Nah. It's Cora and Lexi's night out. I'm just making sure they don't get in over their heads. I can take a break, have a beer, talk to you.”

“Oh... okay.” Dawn remained standing where she was. Faith heaved a sigh.

“How's school?”

“Fine. It's fine.”

“Got a boyfriend?”

“No.”

“A girlfriend?”

“Faith!”

“What? It's not out of the realm of possibility. You should have one of each. At least one of each. I highly recommend it.”

“Because of your wide range of experience,” Dawn said, a note of bitterness creeping into her voice.

“Because there's a whole world out there for you to explore. Things that don't involve vampires and demons and old as hell Slayers.”

“You're not old as hell.” Dawn took a step forward then sat down on the grass next to Faith.

“Giles brought in a twelve-year-old last month. Twelve! I found a grey hair last week. Just one, but all it takes is one and then you're a step away from the retirement home.”

“I have several hundred years on you.”

“Yeah, yeah, mystical energy field.”

“That's right. I'm a veritable storehouse of pent-up energy.”

“So what are you going to do about it?”

“There is one thing.”

“What?”

Dawn leaned over and touched her lips to Faith's. “Meet me when your patrol's over and I'll show you.”
