prompt table challenge: folktale tropes
THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED
Firstly, I've tried to make these pretty generalized, so if you want to sub in anything more specific, maybe relating to a particular story, then that would be completely encouraged! And as always, you can interpret the prompts as loosely or as literally as you like – there's no restrictions at all on how you use them for inspiration.
TABLE
This is the same table as above:
And this one has just the prompts with no explanation:
RULES:
on the ficlets themselves:
- To complete the challenge you must write 15 ficlets, one for each of the prompts listed.
- The prompts may be used for inspiration as literally or as loosely as you'd like.
- You can post your ficlets in any order and at any time prior to the deadline of June 30, 2021.
- Your ficlets must follow general community rules - femslash, between 100 and 1000 words, etc.
- Please tag all your entries in this challenge with the tag prompt table challenge: folktale tropes
- There is an AO3 subcollection for the challenge to which you can add your fics if you wish.
- Comment to this post when you've completed your table and I'll add you to the finished list.
- You can either post the ficlets as you go or wait and post your whole table when you're done.
on making claims:
- You can claim a character, pairing or fandom, or you can make a general claim and write a variety of subjects.
- Claims are not limited in any way, so more than one person can claim the same thing.
- Original fiction and characters are allowed.
- Crossovers are permitted, whether as a specific claim or as part of any of your ficlets.
- You can make a second (and a third and etc) claim, but only after you've finished the first one.
- You can continue to make claims right up until the deadline.

TABLE
| 1. | Be Careful What You Wish For - What you think you want isn't always what's good for you. |
| 2. | Forbidden Fruit - Whether the literal poison apple or a temptation that's just too enticing to resist no matter how glaring the warning signs. |
| 3. | Impossible Task - Our protagonist is tasked to surmount the seemingly insurmountable, against all odds. |
| 4. | The Girl in the Tower - She's trapped out of reach and far away, and might be longing for rescue or escape. |
| 5. | I Know Your True Name - Names have power, and knowing someone's true name can mean control over them, or a bond that cannot be broken, whether for good or bad. |
| 6. | Knight in Shining Armor - A hero/ine to save the day. |
| 7. | Liminal Time - The time in-between, when people or places or things are in the process of changing from one state of being to another. Danger and magic lurk here. |
| 8. | Beauty and the Beast - A beauty to tame the beast, who may not be what they appear. |
| 9. | True Love's Kiss - The power of true love can overcome all trials and tribulations. |
| 10. | Threshold Guardians - Not necessarily an adversary or obstacle, but a being who prepares our protagonist for the adventure ahead, whether through assistance or a test of resolve. |
| 11. | The Evil Queen - Queen, matriarch, or wicked witch, but is she bad to the bone or just misunderstood? |
| 12. | The Trickster - The clever fox who breaks the rules and enjoys the chaos caused. |
| 13. | The Tiger and the Dragon - Sparks fly between two spirits who are opposites yet linked together by destiny. |
| 14. | The Granter of Wishes - A jinn or fairy godmother with motives sometimes pure, sometimes not. |
| 15. | Into the Woods - A wild, dark place of some kind must be traversed before our protagonist can find resolution. |
