[CHALLENGE 265] quiet moments together [Xenoblade Chronicles]

Title: quiet moments together
Fandom: Xenoblade Chronicles
Pairing: Fiora/Melia Antiqua
Rating: G
Prompt: 265: girlfriend.
Word Count: 710
Summary: Fiora calls Melia her girlfriend for the first time.

Girlfriend, Fiora calls Melia one day. Melia Antiqua is Fiora’s girlfriend.

Melia’s face blushes a pink color, darker than the pink hat she wears. Lips purse together, eyebrows crease inward — Melia is clearly caught off-guard, even as she swallows down the lunch Fiora has made for her. She lifts her palm up, covering her mouth as to keep from making a face too embarrassing to bear.

“Melia?” Fiora asks, though there’s a knowing smile on her face as she leans forward a little on the bench they’re sat on out in the brush. Fiora is sweet and cute, but Fiora is not naive. She knows what she’s done to Melia, yet she plays coy. “What is it?”

Melia gets her food down. Barely. She subtly clears her throat and hopes that she’s not become too sweaty.

“For starters, Fiora, you know exactly ‘what it is,’” Melia says. She’s not angry, though, just so, so embarrassed, and so, so in love with the girl beside her. “You called me your…” A pause. Fiora tilts her head expectantly, playful smile still curved on her lips. “Girlfriend.”

“Well yes, of course.” Fiora giggles, amused with Melia’s antics (much to Melia’s dismay). “Because that’s what we are, right? In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve been dating for a few months, Melia.”

“Yes. I am aware,” Melia says, trying to keep her composure, but the blister in the apple of her cheeks is so hot that it causes pain. “Yet you’ve never called me such a term.”

“Girlfriend?”

“You needn’t repeat it.”

“But I love you, Melia,” Fiora sighs, and then she grips onto Melia’s arm. She nuzzles her nose into Melia’s neck, beyond her hair, and then gives her a quick peck on that red, red cheek of hers. “I’ve told you that I love you before, haven’t I? I thought it was about time to put a label to that love.”

Melia can’t help but smile. She puts her chin on the top of Fiora’s head once Fiora settles back into the crook of Melia’s neck.

“I love you as well, dear Fiora,” Melia sighs, feeling her heart begin to relax with each second that ticks by. “It’s only that I cannot believe I’ve gotten so lucky as to find love in a woman like yourself…”

Melia’s eyes close. The breeze washes over them. It wafts Fiora’s scent up to Melia’s senses, and Melia inhales gratefully. It’s a quieter moment between Melia’s obligations as the majesty of what’s left of the High Entia. When she opens her eyes back up, she can feel Fiora’s gaze on her face; and when she looks down, Fiora’s green eyes are lidded fondly.

“Can I ask you a question?” Fiora says.

“Of course,” Melia answers.

“When did you first fall in love with me?”

Melia’s heart has calmed for the most part, but at such a query, she can’t help but feel her heart jump. She recalls their journey in her head briefly.

“...Truth be told?” Melia asks.

“The full truth!” Fiora insists with a little laugh, pixie-like.

“My affections were misguided at the beginning. I believed… that they lied in Shulk, though that was obviously not the case.” Melia laughs a little, and so does Fiora. “It was you, Fiora, who allowed me to finally embrace… myself. And I believe that was when I fell in love.” Melia gives a soft kiss to the blonde tuff of Fiora’s bangs. “Though I did find you quite beautiful to begin with.”

“Aw, shucks!” Fiora squeals, over-exaggerated. And then, she grows quieter. Melia knows the reason, before Fiora even speaks. “That you could find me beautiful even when I had the body of a machine…”

“It never mattered,” Melia says without hesitation. “And it never would. Even if you still had that body.”

“Thank you, Melia,” Fiora says, genuine: in love. Just as in love as Melia is with Fiora. She can feel that love clearly through every one of Fiora’s words, every gesture. “I’m glad that you’re my girlfriend.”

Melia bashfully laughs, a soft noise, even to her own ears.

“I am glad as well… that I am your girlfriend.”

Melia continues to eat with Fiora by her side, basking in sunlight in this one quiet moment together.
