"That's such a Ling take on it," said Alma, yawning against her shoulder. "It is what it is... That's how I've always taken it."
It struck Ling that Alma was different too. Of course she was—but Ling was different so many times over, she'd forgotten one thing alone was enough to mark a person.
She kissed Alma's brow and let her slip to sleep, her heart aching.
