"Too sweet?" Inara asks.

Kaylee breathes in spice-scented steam and drinks carefully, taking her time. Refined sugar, where she came from, was a luxury. So were silk and cinnamon, dainty little cups with gold trim around the edges. Where she came from, the aim of things was not to break.

After a month in the black, sugar will be a luxury again, but she'll have this memory to keep with her. This, and other memories besides.

Inara's eyes are dark as she leans closer, and her hand is warm on Kaylee's wrist, delicate, unbreakable.

"Sweet enough," Kaylee says.

Perfect Kaylee voice! I love her optimism, knowing she'll keep happy memories with her. And I always love seeing her perspective of the other characters, especially someone as different as Inara. They're such a good match!
