[Tarot] Some Choices Are Bigger Than Us (Original)
Title: Some Choices Are Bigger Than Us
Fandom: Original
Pairing: Prudence Gao/Eve Morris
Rating: G
Prompt: High Priestess
Word Count: 200
Summary: Another break-up ficlet.
"It's not a tragedy. It's not a given. It's a fucking choice. You don't have to sell your soul to corporate law to match your aunt's success. This is your life, not hers."
"Then it is a choice. Let's just say that. I choose this." If you want that hurt, take it, Prudence thought. She could stand to be the villain in the eyes of someone she was never likely to see again.
She was tired of this argument, tired of Eve, of everyone else's opinions on her career choices. All she wanted to do was go back to her aunt and curl up in her arms as if she was still a little girl. Or lock herself in a bathroom with a scented candle and a book. She put her cup of coffee down and pushed up off the table.
Eve caught her wrist. "You're dumping me?"
Pru tried to twist her hand free.
"You're dumping me in a public cafe in my own street so I won't make a scene?" Eve's voice was strained with anger.
Pru shrugged and levelled Eve with her coldest stare. "I'm a lawyer."
Eve's fingers released her, unfurling slowly like a dying flower.
