Deluge took advantage of Bluebell’s kindness, and for that, Deluge wished she felt guiltier.

Princess Deluge liked to think that she was very aware of her feelings towards Bluebell Candy. She used Bluebell to get what she wanted, whether that was to acquire more of Bluebell’s magical candies or requesting to visit the underground laboratory where all of her friends died. No matter what Deluge asked of her, Bluebell would do, even if it was out of Bluebell’s reach or if it was hard to accomplish. Bluebell was blind to the fact that Deluge was using her in more ways than one.

Deluge emotionally pushed Bluebell away, and yet she was happy when Bluebell insisted that she stay with Deluge. She used Bluebell as a punching bag for her emotions, lashing out at her when her heart ached and she could not bear it any longer — and was secretly happy that Bluebell lingered by her side and watched after her, despite Deluge fervently insisting that Bluebell do the opposite.

That was the sort of person that Princess Deluge, Nami Aoki, had become. That was the kind of magical girl she was.

I’m not a real magical girl, so it doesn’t matter, right? Becoming rotten and bad suits someone like me.

Deluge knew all of her wrongdoings towards Bluebell and made no effort to correct them or confess to them. She continued to use Bluebell to her advantage, continued to use Bluebell for her own personal gain.

And yet lately, the feelings that Deluge held towards Bluebell had become muddled. They were no longer as clear as they were before.

When Bluebell held Deluge in her arms, Deluge’s heart would race faster. When she’d feel Bluebell’s soft skin against hers, and when Deluge would smell Bluebell’s hair whenever Bluebell held her to the crook of her neck, the tips of Deluge’s ears would become warm.

It wasn’t the first time that Deluge felt such feelings. Deluge recognized them, but refused to accept them. The reminder, the memories; they brought far too much pain.

Princess Inferno.

Deluge had once upon a time felt that way about another member of the Pure Elements, Princess Inferno. No, Deluge still felt that way about Princess Inferno. It was Inferno who set her fire in Deluge’s heart whenever their fingertips would touch, Inferno who made Deluge’s knees feel weak whenever she would smile at her.

But Inferno was dead. She’d been murdered by the Joker Shufflin.

All alone in present time, Deluge was stuck in limbo with her feelings for Inferno. She would never see Inferno again, and yet she was still in love with Inferno and the memories she had of her. If Deluge was still in love with Inferno, then why did she now feel the way that she did for Bluebell?

Deluge didn’t want to leave Inferno behind. She didn’t want to move on.

At her place in Bluebell Candy’s home, Deluge would not leave her room.

Deluge had been harsher to Bluebell lately. She was lashing out again, but she barely felt sorry for her behavior. She only felt sorry for herself.

There was a knock at Deluge’s door. Of course, it could only be one person standing on the other side.

“Go away,” Deluge barked, her voice hoarse.

There was a pause. She could feel the other party’s hesitance radiating even through the walls.

“Deluge, I’m worried… please, can I come in?”

Stupid. Nothing’s stopping her from opening the door. Do you really respect my boundaries that much?

Deluge didn’t answer.

“Deluge?”

“Fine,” she grumbled, and then, she said louder, “Fine!”

There was another pause before the door unsurely cracked open. Bluebell’s personality was larger than even Bluebell herself thought it was. Deluge could sense it in the air.

Bluebell timidly stepped into the room. She looked truly troubled.

“...Deluge…”

Can all you say is my name? Go away.

“What?”

Bluebell approached Deluge with uncertain steps, stopping right in front of her bed. She bit her lip, as if she was afraid to speak.

“Can I sit down?” Bluebell asked her.

Deluge peeked at Bluebell from underneath her tufts of blue bangs. She didn’t want Bluebell anywhere near her… it wasn’t like the times before, where she’d secretly wish that Bluebell would follow after her. She truly didn’t want Bluebell beside her.

“Sure.”

Bluebell sat down. It was then that Deluge noticed she had no shoes on. Deluge guessed a moment later that was because Bluebell pulled her feet up and underneath her, folding them neatly.

There was silence. You could almost cut through it with a knife.

“...Why…” Bluebell began. Deluge immediately noticed the tremble in her soft voice. “Why have you been so distant lately? Did I do something that I’m not aware of?”

Deluge did not speak.

Bluebell reached forward and took Deluge’s hands in hers. A tickle went up Deluge’s spine. Bluebell was wearing her gloves, but Deluge could still feel how warm Bluebell’s skin was underneath them.

“Please, if I did something wrong, tell me! I can’t stand this…”

Deluge did not speak. She shook lightly.

“Oh, Deluge, your hands are shaking,” Bluebell said, tears beginning to prickle her eyes. “Please, tell me what happened. I want to help—!”

Before Bluebell could speak another word, Deluge abruptly cut her off in a way even she never expected. Deluge yanked Bluebell’s hands close to her middle, bringing Bluebell’s body close to her, and kissed her.

“Hey, Deluge! This is kinda a weird question, so don’t freak out on me, okay? Promise?”

Deluge tasted salt on Bluebell’s lips.

“Have you ever… kissed anyone? Don’t look at me like that!”

They both trembled.

“You haven’t?! Well, neither have I! Do you wanna… uhm, okay! Do you wanna kiss me? Just to get it over with!”

No.

Deluge shoved Bluebell away from her with a force so hard, Bluebell nearly fell off of the bed.

Both of their eyes were wide. There were even tears in Deluge’s eyes, though Bluebell’s were already streaming down her cheeks. Both of their chests heaved. Deluge shoved Bluebell so hard that her little hat fell off her head and onto the top of the sheets.

“...I...—” Deluge’s voice cracked. Sadness, anger, despair, fury — it all boiled inside of her, and she yelled at Bluebell’s shocked, quivering form. “Get out! Get out of here!”

Bluebell barely managed to pick up her hat from the bed.

“I, I’m sorry, Deluge.”

Bluebell left the room, barely managing to close the door behind her.

Deluge buried her face into her hands and sobbed until her own tears washed away the taste of Bluebell’s.
