Notes: This is the 9th story in the series.
Summary: It's Linda's turn to invite Alex to her place.

Their next date was at Linda's home. She had decided to invite her there during one of their nights out, for a change.

It had been the first time Alex visited it, and for once her assumptions hadn't been too off the mark: she had expected Linda's place to be a pretty normal place, just with one room dedicated to her training equipment. She had been right about the first half, and only in part for the second, since Linda only had a treadmill and some weights in a corner of her bedroom.

Then again, she had also imagined that Linda would have had a bigger apartment, and a simple three room corner; if she could afford to live a few minutes away from the center of the city, she could have afforded more than that, she had guessed. But then Alex had remembered she was a gym trainer, and probably had had to make some compromise.

Almost as if she had been reading her mind, Linda said suddenly: "Well, now you can guess why I hadn't invited you here yet. I always wondered how a place this small can get this messy."

"Huh... no, it's pretty nice." Alex replied, looking around again. "Why do you say it's messy? I wish my living room was this neat." She added, genuinely curious. There was nothing out of place, not even a magazine or an empty glass, and the fact there was no flowery perfume lingering in the air meant that there were no weird smells, either.

"You think so?" Linda asked, giving a glare at the trophies lined up on the library on the other side of the room; they looked a bit opaque, Alex noticed, so maybe it was that what bothered her.

If that was the case, she really needed to change argument. "Yes, it's really nice and cozy. I like it. Anyway, could you bring me something to drink?" She said, hoping that the switch of argument hadn't sounded too abrupt.

"Of course. Coffee, tea, juice, or something stronger?"

"A tea will do, thank you." Alex replied, relieved, and sat down.

"Okay, I'll be right back." Linda said, walking out of the room. Seeing her leave, Alex stood up and went to look at the trophies: there were five of them, and they were covered by a thin layer of dust. Linda had probably forgotten to clean them, and was a bit embarrassed by that.

There were two participation tokens for having been part of a marathon, one for having placed second at a another one, and two for having placed first and third at two different weightlifting competitions. Pretty much what she had expected, she thought before going back to the couch.

She sat back down, and told herself that by this point she really should have stopped assuming things about Linda, given how she could have just asked.

Some seconds later Linda walked into the living room with two mugs. "Here it is. If you want I also bought some cookies, but since I don't usually eat them I don't know if they're any good."

"Maybe later, right now I'm just thirsty." Alex replied. When Linda sat down she took one of the mugs.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." Linda replied, sitting down and sipping from her own mug.

"Thanks for the invitation, too."

"I had to. By now you invited me at your place, what, seven times now? And you didn't even know where I lived, so I had to fix that."

"Oh, okay." She replied. "But it's just been six times. And we've met less than four months ago, we can take it easy. Don't rush it, you know."

Linda let out a cackle. "Does it even count as rushing it, if the first time we met we slept together right away?"

Alex laughed. Yes, she had a point. After catching her breath she calmly sipped some tea and gave a careful look at Linda: she was wearing a plain white t-shirt and jeans, and she had let her hair grow out a little since the last date - it was a bit longer than the first time they had met, more or less.

"A penny for your thoughts, if you don't mind." Linda said, with a smile.

This time Linda's words hadn't taken Alex by surprise. "Oh, I was just admiring your outfit, today." She calmly replied.

Linda smirked. "That's the closest to something elegant I have in my wardrobe. Aside from a pantsuit for really serious occasions, but that would have been too much."

"Definitely." Alex replied with another small laugh.

"Next time I'll get something better, don't worry-"

"It's alright, you look great like that already." Alex said. She then casually brought the mug to her lips, and pretending to sip her tea she threw a glance at Linda. She looked even more cute, with that confused expression on her face.
