"You could try being happy for me," Prudence said. "I'm finally making some money."
"Off the backs of other people."
Eve willed her to hear her, to really hear what she was saying, but Pru narrowed her eyes, a flush of anger breaking through her concealer.
Maybe she heard her. But she wasn’t listening. The shutters were down, the decision was made.
Eve would miss her.
