Summary: A rare find at the book stall makes Eina realize that she might have feelings for Misha.

Note: The book that Eina finds in this story is a running gag from several different Fire Emblem stories that I have written. It tends to end up in different continuities, so I figured it was no big deal to have it jump to a completely different fandom. *shrugs* The other book that is mentioned here, and the incident that Eina remembers as being related to it comes from Memoria Freese, the Danmachi mobile game.

Speaking of that, one of the reasons I decided to write this is that Memoria Freese throws several different female characters at Eina, and it is starting to feel a mite deliberate, so ... why not do 'fic for it? Haha.

Eina had been surprised to discover that a single push cart in the square had been able to hold hundreds of books, and she had managed to use up her entire break by browsing through that selection. Granted, she had a fondness for books that dated back to her mother reading to her in her crib, but she had been following a rumor, spread by a number of her coworkers, that suggested that several of the gods had been trading books from their collections for money, including titles that might have come from different worlds they had visited in the past.

The book she had selected, Two Princesses of Magvel, had been one of the thickest the cart had to offer, possessed of a red leather cover, gold-edged pages, and text that almost seemed to be of a foreign alphabet until Eina squinted at it and realized that the letters had the same basic shapes as those she had been taught. That had been intriguing, but it had been the hand-painted interior artwork, featuring the two princesses in question in hues of blue and green, that had genuinely piqued her interest. She had to have it.

But, due to her haste, Eina did not realize, at the time, the nature of the book she had acquired.

It was not until she returned home after her long day at the Guild that she discovered that she had purchased erotica, and that the two princesses of the title, Eirika and L'Arachel, had a very ... intense relationship.

This is – Eina blushed to the roots of her hair as she shifted in the overstuffed chair that Riveria had gifted to her. Is this ... another book like – ? She shivered at the memory of the curse that a certain book had bestowed upon her, and of the actions that curse had made her take, but she did not feel any different from normal.

Or she told herself that as she turned the pages and discovered that the artwork became increasingly racy as the story developed and Eirika and L'Arachel moved towards consummating their relationship.

Th-This is – Eina closed the book, certain that steam from her eyes had started to fog up her glasses. If Misha knew I had this, she'd – She paused in her thought. She'd ask to borrow it, probably. That made her beetle up her brows. Why am I agitated about this? I know books like this exist! I should be an adult about this and admit to myself that I should have browsed more carefully. And yet she cracked the book open again. Not that it's bad. The letters look strange, but it's actually written very well, isn't it? And the pictures are just – She frowned. You're justifying this to yourself, Eina. You're trying to justify your lewd behavior. The book lay open in her lap. But I'm not doing anything lewd. I'm reading. That's not a lewd act. Anybody who looked through my window – She looked up to make certain she had her curtains pulled shut. Well! They'd just see me reading a book. Right?

The pages continued to turn until day turned to night outside and Eina had to light a candle. Putting down the book and trimming back the wick made her stop and think back to the cursed book from before.

Because of that book, I almost – The candle sputtered to life under her touch. Misha and I almost – She tried to force her thoughts back to the present. But we didn't. We didn't. But – She picked up the book and sat down again. Why do I keep thinking about that time, then? Am I that embarrassed about what happened, or – ? She sighed. She and I never talked about it after that. We just sort of ... let it go and left it at that.

She read again for a little while before she closed her eyes and thought, Honesty time, Eina. Did the curse work the way it did because I actually think of Misha as more than a friend, or am I just being stupid? She thought of the book in her lap. Well, Eirika and L'Arachel were friends before they were lovers, and that's the way it works here in this world, too, sometimes. But – Another sigh. If I bring this up, and she doesn't take it well, she won't be my friend any more. She clenched her fists in her lap. But it's Misha. She's open-minded. Maybe I should?

Eina closed Two Princesses of Magvel and laid it down on her table. Or ... maybe I should ask for advice first? Riveria would listen. So would Airmid. She grimaced. I didn't even start thinking about this again until I picked up that book! But I guess this is better than just pretending nothing happened at all. She shook her head. If nothing else, it's an excuse to see people I care about again, and maybe have a drink with Airmid. That made her eyes open wide. Oh, no. That one time at the beach with Airmid. Was that – ? She facepalmed. Am I that oblivious?

END.
