CHALLENGE 222: FIRE EMBLEM THREE HOUSES - 'KISS ME ONCE, KISS ME TWICE.'
Title: Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Pairing: f!Byleth/Flayn
Rating: G
Prompt: [222] Twice
Word Count: 555
Summary: Tea and chaste kisses with Byleth and Flayn.
Whenever she can, Byleth invites Flayn to tea. There’s something about her that Byleth is drawn to whenever they sit down together. It’s not the white slenderness of Flayn’s fingers, the delicate way they wrap around porcelain china when she lifts her teacup up to her pink lips; the way Flayn tucks her black frilled dress underneath her bottom when she goes to sit down (though Byleth admits, she likes that about her very much, too). That special something that Flayn has is a gentleness, a subtle knowing and wiseness that exceeds her appearance. Together, they can talk about everything and anything.
Flayn smiles at Byleth as she sets her cup down onto her saucer; lovely, subtle.
“I must confess, Professor,” says Flayn, batting her eyelashes. “I so enjoy myself with you each and every time you invite me to these chats.” A pause, and then she continues, “Perhaps we can meet again at this time again tomorrow?”
Byleth can’t help but smile back at her. She reaches forward to take Flayn’s hand into her own. She dips her head down, and brushes her lips over the top of Flayn’s skin. When her eyes flicker up to Flayn’s face, she finds that Flayn’s smile there has become larger, her cheeks dusted all rosy.
Flayn giggles softly.
“I would love that, Flayn.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
Tomorrow never comes for Byleth and Flayn. Byleth disappears for five years. When she awakens, finds Dimitri, and returns to the monastery with her army of students, she finds that Flayn is the same as she was five years ago: shorter than her, petite as ever, and with that same judiciousness that Byleth has always admired about her.
They’re busy with war affairs, and they have no time to properly reunite. Not until things finally settle down, and its Flayn that approaches Byleth.
“Professor,” says Flayn, approaching with the gentle clack of her shoes on the rubble of the monastery floor. “Will you join me for tea? Like old times.”
Byleth accepts Flayn’s invitation, of course. Flayn presents her with treats that Mercedes has baked, and Byleth remembers Flayn’s favorite tea that she’d bought at the market place with her in mind. Sweet apple blend.
“My favorite tea!” Flayn exclaims delightedly, and brings the cup up to her nose to inhale the pleasant aroma. “You remembered, even after all of this time. I’m honored.”
“Of course,” says Byleth. “I could never forget the time we spent together.”
Flayn sips, and then sets her tea down. Her legs cross one over the other, and she looks carefully at Byleth with those same knowing eyes of hers. “Professor. Do you also remember the last time we spent together, before your five year disappearance?”
Byleth nods.
Flayn continues.
“I’ve often thought of that last time we spent together. And I fear even now that you might disappear again.”
Flayn reaches her hand over the table, as if to reach for Byleth’s hand. Instead, Byleth reaches forward and takes Flayn’s hand into her own, flits her thumb over the soft of Flayn’s skin comfortingly. And yet again does she take Flayn’s hand to her lips and presses a kiss there, as she did five years ago.
“I will not leave you again, Flayn,” Byleth promises, and from underneath her eyelashes, she can see Flayn taken by her smile.
