Summary: Loly contemplates her relationship with Orihime.

She is not the first person Inoue Orihime has had romantic feelings for.

 

On most days, Loly can brush this off as nothing more than circumstance. She met Orihime later in life than the first object of her affections and had little to no bearing on the pain and suffering Orihime suffered in her teenage years. Listening to it later on down the line never made it much easier; Loly found herself curling her hands into fists as she imagined hunting down the boys who thought it would be funny to cut a young girl’s hair into jagged and ugly layers just to see if they could make her cry.

 

She contents herself with the fact that she is the one who makes Orihime laugh now, who provides a shoulder for her to cry on when the world is just too much and the cheerful facade she erects to keep others from worrying about her cracks around the edges. Loving eyes tend not to see, but Loly has trained herself to look for the clues so she knows when to open her arms and tell Orihime to just let go for a little while.

 

When Orihime folds into her, small and fragile and broken, Loly patiently picks up all of the pieces and fits them back into place. She has the privilege of being the one who finally comes up with a corny joke to make Orihime giggle, to see her eyes glitter through the tears, to blot her cheeks dry to keep them from growing raw. She gets to taste those tears on Orihime’s lips when she kisses her better. Kurosaki Ichigo does not get to.

 

Loly may not be Orihime’s first in any sense of the word, but she contents herself with the knowledge that when all is said and done, she will most certainly be Orihime’s last.

 

She has every intention of being her forever.
