[FF6] Elaborate Surprises (#020/#003)
Title: Elaborate Surprises
Fandom: Final Fantasy VI
Pairing: Celes/Terra
Rating: PG
Prompt: Challenge #020 - remainder/#003 - Sweet
Word Count: 300
Summary: Celes has little experience at choosing presents. Recruiting Relm to help might not have been wise.
This was important. It was vital to choose with care. But frankly, Celes was out of her depth.
"If you had never had any of these before," she asked Relm, "Where would you begin?"
Relm just stared. "Who hasn't had candy?" she asked, incredulous. "You?"
"As well," Celes conceded. "I have little interest in starting now, either. But you enjoy candy. So..."
Relm clapped her hands together in glee. "It's for Terra, isn't it?" she asked. "You're getting a present for Terra!"
Celes sighed. She was never, ever, having children. Thankfully, Terra had adopted a whole village of orphans and the issue would never arise. "Yes," she admitted. "And you must not spoil the surprise. Will you help me choose?"
"Do I get to watch?" asked Relm, grinning.
"In the way you usually do," Celes sighed. "From the sidelines. If you can help me choose." The confectionery was daunting in its myriad forms. "I know Terra wants to experience new things. Where is a good place to begin?"
Now that she had to choose just one thing, and not for herself, Relm took a more critical approach to the offering of sweets. "Well... d'you know what she likes? I mean in flavors? Minty, spicy, rich...?"
Celes just looked blank. Relm's expression suggested that somewhere past the age of 14 all humans' brains turned to mush.
"Okay then. Gift box. Selection of flavors and pay attention to what she likes best, okay?" said Relm authoritatively, and dragged Celes to the collection of candy bins. "Chocolate. Dark chocolate. Fruit dipped in chocolate. Fruit dipped in sugar."
Celes quickly nabbed a sampler box - and then a second. This was getting incredibly complex. The best she could hope for was an answer to her question, paired with not having to do this again.

Celes - raised from childhood to be a general in the Empire of Evil. Figured out it was Evil on her own and quit; she joined the rebellion after they rescued her from death row.
Terra - kidnapped as a baby, half-human, also raised by the Empire of Evil, but due to her nature, raised as a slave, wholly controlled by a slave crown. When that broke, she joined the rebellion. (Albeit somewhat confusedly and reluctantly; she spends most of the game trying to figure herself out now she has free will.)
Relm - Daughter of a thief and assassin, granddaughter of one of the world's last blue mages. She's...I think about nine, no older than eleven (she does at one point say how old she is. I just don't remember.) Acts a LOT older than her age. Flirts with adult men, takes on enemies alongside adults, gets REALLY PISSED if people try to treat her as her age and, say, make her stay home. Asking her opinion on candy is probably one of the few opinions Celes would not feel terribly conflicted seeking Relm out about.
