#020 (#001) - The Opposite (Marvel Cinematic Universe)
Title: The Opposite
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Pairing: Laura Barton/Natasha Romanoff
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: #020 Remainder - #002 break
Word Count: 300
Broken dawn. Broken fast. Broken back.
Thank God it’s an exaggeration, and not the literal reality of another brutal action. Laura sits leaning over the still-cluttered kitchen table, forehead on her arms. Nat sets down her cup of black tea. They can hear the kids in the living room, arguing who would win, cars or dinosaurs.
Nat starts by feeling the top of Laura’s neck, finding the vertebrae with her fingertips, then down along her back, under the soft cotton of her shirt. She stops at the bra clasp. “May I?”
“Please.”
Nat lifts up Laura’s shirt to release the clasp, then lets it fall over her back again. They can do this again later tonight, when the kids are in bed, with lotion and time. For now, Laura just needs to be able to stand without pain. Nat presses her palms against the small of Laura’s back, wider now that her belly is heavier, and rubs it in circles, her touch slow but firm.
“Mmm,” Laura intones. “I’m sorry about this. You’re out there saving the world, pulling who knows how many muscles, and I…”
Nat clucks her tongue, because they’ve had this talk before.
“Sorry,” says Laura and then moans in pleasure as Nat moves up her back, massaging tired muscles back to life. “You’re better at this than Clint. Don’t tell him.”
“Shh.”
Laura falls quiet, then, and lets Nat work.
It’s taken time to learn to touch someone like this. The motions are easy enough. But to touch just softly enough, just gently enough, to respond to the encouragement of her sighs—
In this house, on mornings as beautiful as this, Nat refuses to think of where she comes from. This isn’t about them. This is proving them wrong.
The debate concludes in favor of dinosaurs.
