[192] On the Red (original characters)
Title: On the Red
Fandom: original characters
Characters/Pairings: Prudence Gao/Amber Goldman
Rating: PG-13
Words: 300
“I’m sorry. I didn’t—this was all my colleagues’ idea.”
“I get it, honey,” said Amber, slipping the straps of her slinky little dress back over her shoulders. “This kinda thing happens all the time. People think it’s just so damn hilarious to buy a straight girl a lap dance.” She’d barely got through the first few bars of Big Spender before the woman had called it off, told that sleazy go-worker of hers to go fuck himself, and marched Amber out of the conference room.
Even here in the quiet corner office there were signs of the New Year’s party spilling over, fairylights wound around the blinds and half-empty glasses of expensive whiskey abandoned on the desk. The sounds of the party came muffled through the closed door.
Amber watched with mild curiosity as the pretty little lawyer relaxed just a fraction. Her arms remained crossed over her abdomen and her jaw tight, but her brow cleared. “I’m not—I just didn’t ask for this. It’s—”
Amber tilted her head. “Degrading?”
“I mean, why do you do this?”
Amber shrugged. “I do a bit when I end up on the red at the end of the month. It’s good fun, usually. So… you’re not...” she raised her eyebrows, “...straight? ‘Cause your friend Jimmy paid up front, and I’d like to use the dosh to buy you a drink. See if I can change your mind about that dance...”
The relaxation spread from the woman’s brow to her jaw. Such a beautiful mouth. Amber bit her lower lip and tore her gaze back to her eyes. That always did it. She could tell it was working now. She took a step to close the distance between them. “It’s Prudence, right?”
Prudence ended up paying for the drinks after all.
