Prompt Table Challenge - Daisy & Dahlia
Title: Crazy New Things
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Rowena/Jody
Rating: PG
Prompt: The Language of Flowers - Daisy
Word Count: 346
Summary: Rowena questions whether or not her new relationship is a good idea.
Rowena raised her hand to knock on the door and hesitated.
What was she doing here?
Turning a new leaf was all well and good, but this was insanity. They barely knew each other.
- which was the point of the “meet the family” dinner they were having tonight. They needed to make sure this was going to work before they got too far.
And she had children; two of them. Small ones at that. Rowena knew she had no business playing Mommy to anyone. Look at how Fergus turned out!
And they were boys, boisterous, dirt and wrestling loving boys. What on earth was she going to do with them?
Though, their pictures were adorable and from the stories their mother told about them, they could be sweet.
It had been years since Rowena had been in a romantic relationship with a woman, and never openly. Would she be able to handle someone who'd never been in a relationship with someone of the same sex at all? What if it turned out to be an experiment or a phase? Would she be able to not lash out?
A thump drew Rowena's attention to the window by the door. Two little boys were staring at her. The one with green eyes and freckles had his face pressed against the glass, crossing his eyes and waggling his tongue at her. The younger one peered at her from under his shaggy hair, over his brother's shoulder.
“Are you going to knock or what?” a brash female voice called from the other side of the door.
Rowena sighed and knocked.
The door opened and Jody stood there, smiling. “Hey, you're just in time! I just put dinner on the table. We can eat as soon as Dean washes his hands, again.” Jody had turned and was looking at the hoodlums in the window.
Freckles sighed and hung his head, before trudging out of the room.
“Come on in.” Jody stood aside, still smiling.
Rowena decided it wouldn't be the craziest thing she's ever tried and walked inside.

Summary: Rowena thinks she knows the truth.
A tug at her skirt alerted Rowena that someone had gotten up from their nap, again. “Yes, Samuel?” She really tried to keep the terseness out of her voice.
“Are we having takeout for dinner again?” He looked up at her pleadingly.
“Yes.” Rowena tried to keep her voice light, but firm.
“Why?” Sam's whine could peel paint off walls.
Rowena bent down and showed Sam her hands. “Does this manicure look like it belongs to someone who cooks?”
“But I'm worried about Dean's vegetable intake.”
She sighed. “Samuel, you're four and its naptime. When your mother gets...”
She was thankfully interrupted by Jody coming home. Sam ran to her and Rowena watched the fussing. She hoped Jody would tuck him back in. The conversation they needed to have was difficult and not for little ears.
After several promises of staying in his room and being quiet if he woke up again, Sam scampered off.
Jody walked over to Rowena and leaned in to give her a kiss. Rowena turned her head so it caught her cheek.
“Okay...” Jody backed up a couple steps. She tilted her head, perplexed.
Rowena crossed her arms over her chest and looked at Jody. “I know.” Her glare dared Jody to try and deny anything.
Jody laughed uneasily. “Know what?” She went to hang up her coat.
“That you know I'm a witch. That you're a hunter. That the boys aren't... boys.”
“What...” Jody tried to deflect.
“I don't care how gifted, no four year old casually tosses out nearly encyclopedic knowledge of serial killers and general history at the dinner table. And Dean has too many pop culture references at his disposal to be eight. Not to mention his vast knowledge of... adult anime, which you would have never let him watch in the first place. I'm guessing some sort of curse. Is that why you're keeping me around?”
Jody stepped forward. “It's not like that! I didn't know! Sam figured it out sometime after you started watching them in the afternoons. And I... decided it didn't matter,” she pleaded.
Rowena didn't believe her and it showed.
Jody deflated. “The boys may be adults and hunters, but its buried deep in those little boy brains and they're stuck in those tiny bodies. They are just as vulnerable as any four and eight year old. Maybe more so because of who they are. And I leave them alone with you every day. How is that not trust?”
Rowena mulled that over. She'd seen how fierce Jody could be protecting something she cared about.
“And... there is no way to reverse the curse. If we had you around to fix it, wouldn't we have asked by now? I mean, we've been dating for months.” She put her hands in her pockets, needing something to do with them.
Rowena conceded she might have a point. “You could have said something.”
“Would you have stuck around?”
“Well, I was considering turning you all into hamsters.” Rowena re-crossed her arms over her chest and stuck her chin out.
Jody was clearly impressed. “You can do that?”
Rowena nodded sagely.
“Remind me to check missing persons, if you ever give the boys a pet.”
Rowena laughed softly.
“And here I was going to ask you to move in tonight over dinner,” Jody half joked.
“We should probably wait on that.” Rowena hated being the reasonable one.
Jody's face fell.
“It wasn't a 'no'.” Rowena reassured her. “I'm going to say yes, just not tonight.”
Jody quirked an eyebrow at her.
“I can't just go from accusing you of using me for personal magical gain and then calling in the moving van, can I? A woman's got to have standards. I should make you work for it for vexing me like that.”
All Jody could do was laugh.
