"Lucina." A familiar voice made the figure in the blue cape pause. "Don't go. Not yet. There's still time to –" She stopped. "Don't turn your back to me, Lucina. Please."
"Everything's safe now." Her face seemed emotionless behind the butterfly mask. "There's nothing left to discuss. You can go back to the others, and I'll just –"
"You can't even call me by my name?" The black-cloaked strategist lowered her hood, the winds whipping her white hair around her head. "Even now, you're going to pretend you don't know me?" She took a deep breath. "If it's well and truly over, you don't have to go back. There's no way of telling whether or not you'll be able to return." She opened her arms. "You don't have to wander any more! There's a home for you!"
"You don't know what you're asking," she responded, though she did not move. "If I stay, there's every danger that what happened will –" She caught herself. "No. It's better if you don't know anything. You're ... not the Robin that I remember, after all."
"And you're not the Lucina I know." The wind started to die down as Robin spoke. "My Lucina's long since settled down. With Inigo. They've already got one daughter, and she's pregnant with another. They couldn't be happier." She had the hint of a smile on her face, but it disappeared. "You're not at that point in your life yet, are you? You're still wandering, still looking for Ylisse, and you're afraid you'll never find it now." Lucina had no response for that. "You keep returning to the Tempest, hoping that it'll take you there, but it just keeps tossing you this way and that, promising nothing." Robin had the shine of tears in her eyes. "And I'm telling you that it doesn't have to be like that."
"Robin –" This time, she used her name. "– in my world, there was no one I respected more than you, no one I loved more than you ... except for my father." Her voice hardened. "And you murdered him. Even if you're not that Robin, even if you're only a shadow of him, a woman wearing his face, that's what I see when I look at you."
"But you're conflicted, aren't you?" Above them, the clouds had started to lift. The Tempest had only moments before it disappeared. "Look at me, Lucina. In my world, Chrom lived. He and I stopped Grima together – together with you! No one died. Thanks to your knowledge of the future, we saved every life that would have been lost, and now all the Shepherds are alive to build the Ylisse that we've always wanted." She extended her hand. "Come back to Castle Askr with me. Please. The door's open."
"I –" Lucina lowered her Falchion, returned it to her side. "... Robin?" She no longer sounded like the 'Marth' she pretended to be. "Are you ... telling me the truth?"
Robin walked up to her until they stood face to face. "I am, Lucina." She reached up and removed the butterfly mask, and Lucina did not stop her. "You're exhausted. Frightened, too. You've lived like this for too long, and you don't have to." Lucina wrapped her arms around her, and Robin let the butterfly mask drop to the ground. Almost immediately, she could feel the sobs as Lucina cried into her shoulder. "I'm not your Robin. I'm ... better." Her voice softened. "I'm what he should have been."
"Then –" Lucina forced her words through her tears. "– let me love you ... in the way that Grima never let me love him." Robin stroked her hair. "Be my Robin."
"There's nothing I want more," Robin replied, closing her eyes and keeping her voice level despite wanting to cry along with her. "We'll put things right together, not only here, but everywhere. Just ... put as much of your faith in me as you can."
Above, the Tempest disappeared, and the night sky gradually returned to normal as Lucina said, holding Robin tightly, "I will. I'll need your help to do it, but I will."
END.
