“Can you still recognise me?” Vivi asked, attempting at humour. She leaned in to make her voice reach Nami over the ruckus of the feast. The fight was over, her mission was over, she was neither a rogue nor a pirate anymore. She was now back to being a princess, soon to inherit the throne. Nami took in her appearance –

There wasn’t any trace of sand left in her hair, which now flowed unrestrained down her back. All injuries she suffered with the Straw Hats were diligently covered. A flowery aroma now surrounded the princess, overriding completely the default smell of seawater that followed all of the remaining Straw Hats and used to follow her too, before. Her richly decorated clothing was just one more indicator of her royal status.

She looked out of her world. Out of their world.

Nami knew what Vivi really meant to ask. Do you still consider me a part of you? She didn’t give her an answer right away, knowing the weight of the question. She raised her head from her plate and turned to look Vivi in the eyes. The princess met her gaze with the same intense look, with which she used to regard the endless desert, readying herself for the battle.

Nami smiled, she wanted to call her stupid for believing that a different packaging made her view her differently. She looked more frail like this, wrapped in expensive fabrics, but Nami knew better.

“You’ll always be you” she said softly.
