Challenge #121 - Interviews with Monster Girls
Title: Light and Cold
Fandom: Interviews with Monster Girls
Pairing: Hikari/Yuki
Rating: General Audiences
Prompt: Vacation
Word Count: 500
Summary: Yuki trusts Hikari, but sometimes she doesn't trust herself.
Hikari looked out the window at the snowy Hokkaido hillside.
"This must be just perfect for you, Yuki," she said.
Yuki nodded. "I'm a little more at home here, yes."
Hikari giggled. "I don't mind it either. I'm glad you invited me here, and not to the beach!"
They had gone on the trip with Yuki's parents, who had considerately left them alone, knowing that the girls would rather hang around with each other.
Hikari was still looking at Yuki with a little smile.
"I know what that expression means," said Yuki with a sigh. "Go ahead, bite my arm if you need to."
Hikari enthusiastically began to nibble on her forearm.
'This doesn't mean anything,' Yuki told herself. 'She's just like a puppy or something. I've seen her do this to her own sister.' But that wasn't how Yuki thought about it deep down.
She was still telling herself it didn't mean anything when Hikari raised her head and kissed her on the lips.
Yuki pulled back. "No!" she said out loud.
It took a lot to hurt Hikari but she looked hurt now. "I'm sorry, Yuki. I always thought you-- I mean I hoped you--"
"It's not that I don't like it," said Yuki. "It's just a bad idea."
"If you say so," said Hikari.
"It's the stories," said Yuki finally. "About snow women."
"What do you mean?"
"They-- we-- are always luring men places and it never turns out to be a good thing for the men. So maybe no one should like me that way, just in case."
"But those are just stories!" said Hikari firmly. "Are you worried that someday I'll turn around and bite your neck and suck your blood?"
"Of course not!"
"That's what vampires do in all the stories!"
Yuki shook her head. "I know. It's easy for me to say they're just stories when it's you, when I know you would never hurt me."
"I know you would never hurt me," said Hikari firmly. "But of course I won't kiss you, if you don't want me to."
"I do want you to," Yuki admitted. "I've been wanting you to for a long time now."
Hikari leaned forward and this time Yuki didn't pull away. They kissed, and Yuki rested her head on Hikari's shoulder.
The vampire girl gave a devilish grin. "Anyway, maybe it's a bad idea for men, but I'm not a man!"
They both laughed. Yuki stroked Hikari's hair, then said "If you really really wanted some of my blood..."
"I would never ask for you that."
"I don't know. It might be fun."
Hikari snuggled against her. "You are full of surprises. If I run out of blood at home I'll keep your offer in mind."
"Do you want to go play in the snow?" Yuki asked.
"Later," said Hikari. "Right now I have all the snow I need." She held Yuki tight, and they breathed together, watching the sun shine gently on the white hills.
