A collection of Sappho ficlets
Title: Release Me From Care
Fandom: Ghostbusters (2016)
Pairing: Jillian Holtzmann/Rebecca Gorin
Rating: T
Prompt: Sappho #1. Deathless Aphrodite of the spangled mind
Word Count: 300
Summary: She doesn’t mean to kiss Jillian. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to.
Author's Notes: This is my second attempt at this prompt, as my original attempt ended up at 1353 words long. This one is much more like it.
Rebecca sits across the table from Jillian, listening to her enthuse about her research, about the challenges of engineering a physical solution to an almost intangible problem. The wine and the science loosens their tongues and unwinds their inhibitions the way they always do, but there’s something different tonight. There’s a different vibe to their academic sparring, as though the flirtation that has always lain underneath it is slowly pushing its way to surface. Refusing to be denied and supressed any longer.
She doesn’t mean to kiss Jillian. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to. That she hasn’t wanted to for many a year. Hasn’t spent a good percentage of the time she’s known her younger colleague resolutely refusing to think about how much she’d like to kiss her. Has focused on how much it would have been a betrayal of Jillian’s trust and admiration to do so.
But Jillian isn’t her student any more. Hasn’t been for more than a decade. She’s a grown woman now, with friends and colleagues and work that isn’t related to Rebecca in the slightest. She doesn’t need Rebecca any more. But she definitely still wants her. Rebecca doesn’t doubt that, not in the way Jillian surges back into the kiss she initiates, nor in the way she murmurs ‘finally’ into Rebecca’s throat as she kisses her way down Rebecca’s throat.
The spangled, brilliant mind of her former protégée is too much to resist suddenly, and Rebecca lets herself go. Lays down her cares for a while and lets herself exist in the moment with Jillian, lets herself be consumed with the joy and passion of their connection.
It’s far less scary than she has always feared. Jillian is tender and without shame as she lays Rebecca down, deathless like some forgotten Sumerian goddess.
Title: That Which I Love
Fandom: Ghostbusters (2016)
Pairing: Holtzmann/Abby/Patty/Erin
Rating: PG
Prompt: Sappho #2. Some men say an army of horse
Word Count: 340
Summary: There is a great deal about Jillian that Rebecca doesn't understand, but that doesn't make her care any less about the subject.
It’s peaceful on the roof after the noise of the lab, and to be honest, the rest of the firehouse, below. A lifetime in academia has inured her to the quiet bustle and repressed emotions and sudden outbursts of passion that mark that world. The honest passion and unashamed enthusiasm for their subject that pervades the ‘Conductors of the Metaphysical Examination’ is both refreshing and a little exhausting. She’s very glad that young Jillian has clearly found ‘her people’ but for all they are several degrees of less ‘on’ than Jillian, Rebecca is glad that she’s only visiting this particular research facility.
She has however, spent a glorious couple of hours poking through Jillian’s research and experiments, picking holes and having delightful, mind-expanding arguments with Jillian. As loath as she would be to admit it out loud, she’s missed Holtzmann these last few years and following her career from a distance is just not as satisfying as standing in a lab with her. Despite the discomforts and inconveniences of commercial air flight, Rebecca is unreservedly glad she came.
As though summoned by the thought, Jillian appears at Rebecca’s side. Quiet the way she always is when she talks about something that really, truly matters.
“So…what do you think?”
There are so many things that statement could be about, but Rebecca doesn’t pretend for a moment not to understand.
“It’s…not what I would have chosen for you. But this place, this work, these people. They make you happy; they are what’s important to you. And therefore they are,” her lips quirk with remembrance, “the most beautiful thing on the black earth.”
“Thank you. They are…” Jillian takes a moment to steady herself, as though to steel herself for some great confession, “what I love.”
“Thank you for sharing that with me,” Rebecca replies slipping her arm around her former student, allowing the head that falls on her shoulder in return. She is so very proud of her protégée and all that she has achieved, the personal no less than the professional.
Title: Burn with Me
Fandom: Ghostbusters (2016)
Pairing: Holtmann/Patty
Rating: T
Prompt: Sappho #7. you burn me
Word Count: 250
Summary: If Patty is going to burn out, then there’s no one she’d rather burn with
Author's Notes:
Holtz is not like anyone else that Patty has ever met. She doesn’t talk like other people, she doesn’t think like other people, she doesn’t act like other people.
Holtz does not give a damn what anyone else thinks of her, beyond that, doesn’t even seem to notice what other people think of her, except in one specific area which is oddly enough in the bedroom. Someone at some point has clearly taught her that orgasms for everyone is important and Holtzmann has gone out and learned how to be really good at giving orgasms and at knowing exactly how to get her own.
On the one hand its really quite refreshing. (Holtzmann is kind of the platonic ideal of that cliché of lesbian sex being more honest and upfront about communicating desire.) On the other hand Patty thinks she might actually immolate from the way that her Holtzy sets her alight with desire, makes her feel consumed with it, as though she could eat her girlfriend alive.
Sometimes Patty feels like she should tell Holtz to stop, that she can’t possibly have another orgasm, that their bodies can’t possibly contain this much desire, this much heat, this much passion. She knows though that Jillian would only take it as a challenge, would look up from between her thighs with a raised eyebrow and a mischievous expression and Patty would be powerless to resist her.
If Patty is going to burn out, then there’s no one she’d rather burn with.
