[florence lyrics #2] (genshin impact, ningguang/beidou)
Title: a gift with a price
Fandom: Genshin Impact
Pairing: Ningguang/Beidou
Rating: G
Prompt: #2: "this is a gift, it comes with a price."
Word Count: 417
Summary: beidou arrives at the jade chamber with a surprise.
happy 3-weeks-early birthday, ningguang!
(a fandom tag would be much appreciated, mods <3)
somehow, even though she's been here almost hundreds of times, the beauty of the jade chamber never ceases to amaze her. intricately patterned walls, staircases crafted from cor lapis, a giant gold chandelier strung up with silk... it feels like a palace from a fairytale. and ningguang herself is not unlike a princess, beidou thinks to herself, smiling in amusement, although she'd hate to admit it.
"good morning." a familiar voice rings out from the other side of the room.
speak of the devil. "hey," beidou greets, "i mean, um... good morning, miss tianquan." shoot. she still hasn't got the formal greetings down.
ningguang smiles. "always a pleasure, crux captain." she's elegantly reclined on a plush gold couch, idly fidgeting with a mora between her gloved fingers. beidou thinks she could stare at her forever.
the tianquan stands up and walks over toward her, heels clacking sharply against the wood floors. "come to pay another fine, i presume?"
"nope. not this time," beidou laughs awkwardly. "i've actually got, uh, a gift."
"a gift, you say?" ningguang tilts her head to the side inquisitively.
"yeah. you like those, right? plus, your birthday's coming up, so i thought... um, yeah. here it is." she hands the gift over to ningguang, taking care to be gentle.
she removes the messily-applied gift wrap to reveal a gold platter, covered by a glass lid. inside is a dried glaze lily, levitating and turning slowly.
"it's probably not the best you've gotten, but i worked really hard to get it! the platter cost me half a fortune. mr zhongli worked super hard to find a glaze lily that bloomed on your birthday, and that alchemist girl from mondstadt showed me some anemo sciency stuff to keep it floating." beidou's rambling, desperately trying to justify giving the tianquan such a stupid present.
"such an old glaze lily," ningguang muses, "i wonder how much it would cost."
beidou's heart sinks a little. "oh, are you... going to sell it?"
ningguang's head, snaps back up, eyes wide and worried. "oh, no! of course not! i-i meant, uh..."
ningguang places the gift down on a nearby shelf and holds both of beidou's hands in her own. "i'm so sorry, beidou. i promise you, this gift is absolutely priceless to me. i won't ever trade it for anything."
beidou can't believe what she's hearing. she can feel her own heart beating out of her chest.
"beidou?"
the captain grins widely. "that's the first time you've used my name."
