An Invitation - Game of Thrones for Challenge 278 - Come
Title: An Invitation
Fandom: Game of Thrones
Pairing: Arya Stark/Yara Greyjoy
Rating: Teen
Prompt: 278 - Come
Word Count: 361
Summary: Before Arya heads out to see what's West of Westeros, Yara extends an invitation to visit
The young warrior girl intrigued Yara. She had a lithe body, a quick mind, and a boundless sense of curiosity. She confided her desire to travel the seas to Yara.
“Take one of my fleet,” said Yara. “It will serve you well. When you are done with your voyages, come to the Iron Islands and stay a while. You are always welcome.”
“Yes, Lady Greyjoy.”
Yara laughed. “I am not a lady.”
Arya met the grin with one of her own. “Nor I.”
“One day, we will need to explore that.” She winked at Arya, then left.
Winter fled, then turned to spring and a long summer. Yara attended to the business of her fleet and her people. They thought her a good leader, but still she longed for a few quiet hours at sea with no demands. She’d walk along the coast, watch the waves, and continually scan the horizon.
One evening, she noticed something out of the ordinary. A ship, headed her way. Her heart quickened, thoughts of an attack filled her head, and she readied herself for battle. She had not felt such adrenaline in her veins in so long.
The ship drew nearer and Yara recognized it as one of her own. It docked near the shore. A ladder was tossed over the side and a figure descended, nimbly jumping from the bottom rung onto the sandy beach. The girl that Yara had left in Kings Landing was no more. A woman stood in her place, her skin bronzed and her hair lightened from days in the sun. Yara clasped Arya’s hands in her own- rough hands, those of a sailor, not a lady. “Welcome.”
Arya smiled at her. “Thank you for allowing me to stay.”
Yara looped an arm through hers. “Tell me of your travels. Did you discover everything you wanted?”
Arya trailed the fingers of her free hand over Yara’s arm. “Not quite. Once upon a time, a woman I met promised me further exploration of behavior that would make a Septa blush, I would very much like to experience it.”
“Then, come, Arya Stark, and follow me on a different sort of journey.”
