Amber lowered her eyeliner and looked at herself in the mirror, one eye lined, one still clean and pale and fading into her face, a reminder of how less she was without her makeup on.
She painted on her face, dressed up her body, artistry laid on top of nothing at all. She chose herself every morning and took herself off in the shower; washed herself down the drain.
Freya was getting to her, with her talk about self-discovery. Freya taught yoga and had the most amazing ass. Amber had never meant for it to be anything more than a fling. She never did, and yet girls kept happening to her.
She stared herself in the naked eye for a moment, but could not take it for a full minute. She finished the eye off quickly and picked up the mascara.
There was more than one path to inner peace.
