Summary: Diane dares Claire to be civil. Claire does her one better.
Diane had had enough. The cutting remarks, the constant sniping was starting to get under her skin. Finally, she snapped. “I dare you to be civil to somebody for once in your life,” she shouted.
“I can be civil,” Claire replied. She stepped closer to Diane. “I can even be nice.” She reached out and touched Diane's arm. “All you had to do was ask.”
“What are you doing?”
“Being nice.” She drifted her fingers down to Diane's wrist, rubbing her thumb over the pulse point.
“Claire.” Diane's voice was on the edge of a warning, but she couldn't bring herself to say “stop” or to take her hand away from Claire's ministrations.
“I get your blood going, don't I? Seems a shame to let that energy go to waste.”
“A lot of things get my blood going. That doesn't mean I...”
Claire leaned forward and planted a quick kiss on Diane's lips. She dropped Diane's hand and started to walk away. “If you change your mind, you know where to find me.”
Diane watched her leave the break room. Claire had managed to go two minutes without a caustic remark. Of course, she was able to get Diane worked up in another way, so Diane wasn't quite sure if she should consider it a success.
