"So, do you have any plans for Saturday night?" Alex asked.
"I was thinking of staying home and relax. I'll have to do some overtime shifts from tomorrow to Friday, so I can't wait to sit on the couch and relax." Linda explained.
"Alright... so, pizza and movie?"
"Make it Mexican and I'm sold."
"That's great. My place, as usual."
"Yeah, definitely." Linda replied, massaging the back of her neck. "By the way, you must tell me where you bought your mattress, it's one of the best I slept on, and I want to get one for dad and mom."
"Oh, sure. Just a moment, I still have their business card somewhere." Alex said, then opened her purse to search for her wallet. As she found it and looked inside it, she started to think that by now they should have started thinking about buying a king sized mattress, and a whole new bed. "Huh... no, I don't have it with me, sadly." She then added.
"That's okay, you'll tell- hey, the tea is ready, one moment." Linda replied, standing up and walking towards the stove.
As she looked at Linda preparing two mugs, Alex thought at the bed again. They hadn't been talking about moving in together yet, they had celebrated their first anniversary together just two weeks ago. But ever since they had gotten more acquainted with each other and their families, Alex had felt much closer to her, and wanted that closeness to continue. The times Linda spent the night or the weekend at her place always left her with such a nice and familiar feeling, like they had been a couple for a long time.
She didn't realize she had ever needed that, but now that she felt that way, she loved it; when she saw her towels or used clothes hanging around, she found herself thinking about what an apartment they shared the whole time would have looked like.
It was amusing to remember that until not too long ago she was the one thinking they should slow things down, while now her flights of fancy brought her there. How things had changed, in just a few months.
But what she found more surprising was how she had never been able to keep a relationship going for more than half a year, and now she was with a woman she hoped would have been with for as long as possible.
"Here we are." Linda said, carrying the mugs to the kitchen table.
"Thanks."
She sat down, and went on. "As I was saying before, you can tell me during the weekend. I'd love to buy one for myself, and to get one for my parents for Christmas. They said they're starting to have some serious back pains."
"Okay, I'll look it up." Alex replied. "And talking about your parents, isn't your mother's birthday next month? Have you decided what to get her?"
"Usually I take her and dad to a restaurant."
"Of course."
Alex picked up her mug, and started to sip her tea. As she drank, she started to wonder if maybe it was just her thinking of Linda's parents and how close they were that had made her feel like that about Linda. She had never really felt too much like a family person, despite her great relationship with her own relatives, and seeing a family like that had left her with a weird funny feeling.
Then again, it was Linda's family, of course her parents too would leave her with a good feeling.
"By the way, since you mentioned Christmas, why don't we go and have dinner somewhere more fancy? My treat, obviously."
Linda's expression turned worried. She then asked: "How fancy? 'Cause I'm not wearing a skirt again."
Alex laughed. "Come on, just this once. You looked so hot and cute."
"Lose the 'cute', and I might think about it." Linda replied, pouting.
"Alright then." Alex replied, before pushing her mouth against hers, mostly as a precaution to avoid blurting out about how cute Linda looked with that expression.
A few seconds later, Linda pulled back. "Wow, easy." She said, catching her breath.
Alex smiled. Whatever the reason was that she made her feel like that, she really loved being with her. And for as long as this was going to last, she was going to enjoy every moment of it.
