[Janelle Monae Lyrics] Prompt 5 - She'll have you falling harder than a Sunday in September
Title: One night at the club
Fandom: Original story
Characters/Pairings: Alexandra/Linda
Rating: Gen
Words: 742
Prompt: She'll have you falling harder than a Sunday in September
Notes: This is the 1st story in the series.
Summary: Often it starts as simply as one can imagine.
Trying to be as casual as she could, Alex fixed her tank top pulling it up as much as she could without looking ridiculous. She wasn't used to going braless, and now she wasn't just feeling uncomfortable, but also more and more embarrassed: she had decided to go like that was to turn heads, but after a hour and a half of having sat there and spoken only with the bartender. Not what she would have called a success.
Well, two customers had looked her way, a girl that looked like she was just out of high school and a blonde that was already hugging another, more showy blonde. But for all she knew they could have been laughing at her make up - the lipstick she was wearing was too red, and clashed with her white pants and black tank top. She should have known better, she thought as she heaved out a sigh without even realizing.
Likely attracted by that, the bartender walked close to her. "Another one?"
Alex thought about it for a moment: if she finished another drink she would have likely become too tipsy to function, but at the same time she wanted to keep that nice buzz in her head. "Yes, why not." She then replied, pushing her glass towards the bartender. "Just half the glass, please."
"Alright." The woman replied before picking up the bottle of vodka from the other side of the counter. Alex looked in silence, impressed as usual by the little spectacle the woman put up as she prepared the drink, juggling bottle, shaker and glass and making it look easy.
"Hi there." A voice came from behind her. Alex turned around, and saw a figure a few steps away to her - slightly short, the leather jacket she was wearing gave her a stout appearance. Not one of the women that had looked at her before. In fact, she hadn't noticed her until right now.
When she had reached the counter, the woman sat right next to Alex. "This round is my treat, if you don't mind."
Despite the sentence sounding slightly brash, her tone was very soft and kind. Or maybe it was just her low and husky voice that made those words sound like that.
That was the deciding factor in Alex's mind; a chat with someone with a voice so pleasant was definitely something she needed "Thank you." She replied, giving her a smile. "But it's my last round, okay?"
"Fine by me." The woman said, passing the bartender her own glass. "A refill for me too."
As the woman made her order, Alex gave another look at her, this time from closer: no make up on her face, at all. Her high cheekbones made her face look more round than it actually was, and added to the impression that she was a bit bulky. Under the leather jacket, she was wearing a t-shirt with an illustration of what looked like the cover of some punk rock album she had never heard of, and was sporting a buzz cut that seemed at least a few days old.
If one had to sum her look up in one sentence, it would have been 'aiming for butch, but not all the way there'. She had the attitude, but something was a bit off.
But Alex had to admit, she found that woman's look incredibly cute, in a high school rebel kind of way. That soft voice coming from someone with that look, was just the perfect combination to her.
When the bartender had given the woman her drink, Alex finally asked: "Thanks again for the drink. Could I know your name?"
"Linda, pleased to meet you. And you are?"
Linda. A cute name, too. "Alex."
"Happy to meet you too, Alex. Are you new here?"
She shook her head. "Not really, I've been here a couple times before, months ago."
"Months ago, huh?" Linda replied, sipping her drink. "Is your birthday, or did you have a break up?"
Alex chuckled. "One of the two." She couldn't quite put her finger on the reason why, but she couldn't help finding that attitude charming. After thinking about it for a moment, she decided to stop drinking for the night, and talk for some time. Half an hour or so, enough to sober up and see if this Linda was still going to be interesting later.
At the very least, that voice was going to make the conversation much easier.
