Summary: Rukia and Orihime study together.

 

Dark violet eyes swivel toward the cell phone docked in the small speaker set on the dresser as Kuchiki Rukia shifts up from her elbows, weight balanced on the palms of her hands. “Inoue? This song sounds like the one that played just before it.”

“Hmm?” Inoue Orihime glances up from the school notes arranged neatly in front of her, her notebook balanced on one thigh. “Oh, it’s a playlist I made! It’s meant to have a theme.”

“What was the theme?” The concept of a playlist is lost on Rukia; music in Soul Society is not like music in the human world, after all. She has no memory of what the human world was like before she died. If this is normal, she has no way of knowing.

Orihime is quiet. “It’s, ah…” She bites down on the end of her pen. “A romance playlist.”

“Oh.” Rukia blinks at the phone, then looks back down at her textbook. Grades may not matter for her, but she likes to keep up the charade if she can. “I see. That’s interesting.”

A soft hum answers her. “The songs on it used to be different. They used to be about Kurosaki-kun.” Of course they were. Orihime was in love with him; you would have to be blind to miss such an obvious fact. “And they aren’t about him anymore?”

“No.” Orihime smiles at her, her eyes crinkling softly with the expression. “Not anymore.”

Rukia nods, glancing down at her notebook again. Good.
