"Hmm. One coin for your thoughts, dear?" Camilla asked, walking up to stand next to Corrin at the battlements of Castle Askr, the plates of her armor clanking softly against each other, her face impassive behind her purple hair in the half-light of dusk.

Corrin tensed, but only for one second. This Camilla had not come from the same place as her, and did not intend to kill her. Indeed, she wished to be called sister. Corrin had almost learned to be at ease around her, though ... not yet, and she had to take a deep breath before she said, "Is my discomfort that obvious to you, Lady Camilla?"

"Discomfort?" Camilla seemed amused. "Discomfort for me, perhaps. It pains me to see you in these throes." Corrin blinked at that. "No point in trying to conceal it, dear. Your heart already belongs to the Dragon from Elibe. I dare say it belonged to her from the instant you set eyes upon her, as soon as Kiran summoned her here to Askr." A warm smile, still unsettling for Corrin. "Am I wrong to make that assumption of you?"

"No," Corrin admitted, looking down at the moat of the castle, "you're right. It's something I've never experienced before." Camilla nodded. "I mean, I know I've got a problem with trusting people too easily, opening myself up to them like I've got nothing to hide, but, this time, it didn't even feel like it was a choice. I saw her, and it felt like I'd known her my entire life, like she read everything about me just by seeing me once. It's ... frightening." She hugged herself, shaking her head. "It almost doesn't feel natural."

"And yet there's nothing more natural," Camilla replied, laying one hand on her back. "You might not be my Corrin, much as I love her –" A hint of pain in her face, though it quickly vanished. "– but you're still so much like her that I'm sure you're not as worldly as you'd wish to be. You're still learning the ins and outs of your heart, and you've just been shown something that you haven't learned yet." Another warm smile. "Are you afraid of her, or are you simply afraid of how new all of this is to you right now?"

"You're not wrong," Corrin said, looking up at her. "Maybe it's because I don't feel like I'm in control of this situation? It's just a thing that happened, and now I've got to deal with it. I mean, it's not bad." She blushed, prompting Camilla to smooth her hair. "It takes my breath away, in fact. She's so beautiful that I can't imagine any song capturing just how unique and beautiful she is. But you're right: It's new. I've never experienced it. Surprises are one thing on the battlefield, but no one's fighting here, not now."

"Well, your big sister is happy for you," Camilla said, her face turning grave, "but you can't keep this to yourself, you know. You've got to go and talk to her. After all, there's no guarantee we'll be here for a long time. You'll go back to your Nohr, I'll go back to mine, and she'll go back to her Elibe." She reached for Corrin, touched her face, tucked a lock of blonde hair behind one pointed ear. "You'll hate yourself forever if you miss this opportunity. My Corrin certainly would. Why not go and look for her now? And don't take too long finding your courage. No one wins anything by dithering, after all."

"I can't disagree." She turned to depart, but she paused first. "Thank you, Camilla. I –" She thought for a moment. "Did your Corrin fall in love like this? The same way?"

Camilla replied, "I told you before: Don't dither. Go on, now." And Corrin nodded once before leaving, heading off to find her Ninian and everything she meant to her.

But Camilla said to herself, after Corrin left her by the battlements, "She did fall in love, but not the same way. It took time for her to realize that she wanted so much more than a sister to –" She shook her head. "– never mind that. I'll go back to Nohr, home to her, soon enough." Her heart ached, and she pushed the familiar pain of separation down into its depths. "So soon, she won't even know that I've been gone all this time."

END.
